Consumer Electronics Show
There are many ways that a person can learn about new technology, but few options work as well as visiting a technology conference to see all of the latest developments. Of these conferences, there are many that are popular, but none draw the same attendance as the famed International Consumer Electronics Show, or CES, that takes place each January in Las Vegas, Nevada. This event draws attendees from all corners of the globe to see the newest technology advancements that companies have to offer. At this annual event, many new products are shown months and years before they hit the market, giving developers and consumers a first peek at the technology that will drive the next generation of devices and computers.
In 2011, the CES was a major success as with many of the conferences of previous years. One of the main focuses in this year was new tablet computers that were built to rival the iPad and early versions of this new division of computers. In fact, the Motorola Xoom tablet won top honors at the show by garnering an award called Best of Show. In addition to tablets, a number of new mobile phones were also introduced that use the powerful 4G network for calls and data transfer. Yet another new invention to be unveiled at this year’s CES was a number of 3D televisions made by famous companies, such as Samsung, Mitsubishi, and Toshiba.
CES has historically been a place where the newest technology shows its face to the public. In the past, such items as the Xbox, the Compact Disc player, and the common VCR were introduced during the conference. Because of the large number of attendees, many of whom are looking for the next great thing, even startup companies are willing to display new devices to gain capital to fund their operations.
